introducing A new series
Blue Zone Cooking Classes: Ikaria
Welcome to my upcoming series of cooking classes, where we begin our journey into the Blue Zones! Since I am hosting a cooking program in Greece the first week of November it’s only fitting that our first stop will be the stunning island of Ikaria, Greece—a Blue Zone, known for its longevity and vibrant lifestyle.
Why ikaria?
Ikaria has earned its place in the Blue Zones because of the remarkable health and longevity of its inhabitants. Many Ikarian people live well into their 90s and even 100s, and the key to this longevity lies in their way of life, especially their diet.
The Ikarian diet is rich in plant-based foods, focusing on vegetables, wild greens, legumes, whole grains, and of course, olive oil and honey. These ingredients are combined with traditional Greek flavors like lemon, garlic, and a host of fresh herbs, creating simple yet nutrient-packed meals that support a long, healthy life.
in this series…
We’ll not only cook these incredible dishes but also explore the cultural and lifestyle habits that make Ikaria special. These meals are made to be shared with family and friends, to be savored slowly, and to nourish both body and soul.
In each class we will do 2-3 recipes that highlight the Ikarian approach to food—simple, wholesome, and packed with flavor. By the end of the series, you’ll not only have a new set of delicious recipes to add to your repertoire, but you’ll also gain insight into how these traditional foods contribute to longevity.
Join me as we explore the timeless flavors of Ikaria and Greece as a whole, bringing the principles of the Blue Zones into our kitchens and our lives!
